That we have a responsibility to contribute to our environment and community.
That In-N-Out Burger is very slightly better than 5 Guys.
That most people have some good in them, but not everyone.
That ‘This American Life’ is the best hour on tv or radio.
That moral pragmatism is the road to peace and happiness and that ideological purity can be intolerant, arrogant and self serving.
That taking time in nature is the best way to re-set your attitude. That and the occasional Tom Robbin’s novel.

Broken bodies. Broken minds. Broken spirits. Broken dreams. Life is an incredibly heartbreaking experience.

But there’s beauty is in the small moments, the triumphs of the heart.

The frisson of passion. Sight of a rainbow. One true bond of friendship. An outstretched hand in a time of darkness. Art that inspires a wellspring of emotional reaction. The smell of fall. The restorative salve of the sea. Insights of clarity. Hard won wisdom. Fireflies. Starfish. The opportunity to start anew with each new day. An authentic compliment. The comical snort of a pig. Contagious laughter. Shrugging off the constraints of society to pursue true happiness. Moments when integrity and depth of character transmute the human drama into a testament of living grace. Waking up to the realization that you are a-okay with the person you are today. Accepting that your parents are people, too. The power that comes from learning we are survivors. Lightning.

I believe one always has the choice between right or wrong, and no matter the circumstance, we can always choose not to harm someone and instead do the right thing. If we want to be treated well, we should start treating others well. Life sometimes can be hard, and I think that is the moment when we need to stop and think before doing any harm. We should be patient and try to remember that life is full of beautiful things… such as love.

I believe that we are being guided by corporatism into a false consumerist world where natural ambition and understanding is being replaced by desires to better our neighbors in a financial and material sense. Rather than aiding them, we envy what they have and scorn what they don’t. I used to think we could change that, but my experiences have made me believe it impossible. Worse still, perhaps, I am becoming like that.
