about

In an age when neighbors are disconnected and societies are fractured due to religion, creed, politics, race, geography, socio-economics, and countless other markers, the U Truth Project seeks to discover commonalities within the human drama that supersede surface differences.

Armed with little more than a camera, a laptop, a copious supply of anti-malaria pills, and a tentative route, adventurer Ida Antares Becker is circumnavigating the globe and asking the people she meets to share a personal statement of truth. With no criteria or requirements for participation, the truths may be topical or profound, silly or serious—simply something that particular person believes to be true.

The U Truth Project is a web-based photo documentary that chronicles the responses.

Twyla Tharp said “I think that probably the moments of discovery do come from a place that is not totally organized. Order is something that we already know about and Discoveries are in a world we don’t already know about”

    You go girlfriend.

“The world needs dreamers but above all, the world needs dreamers who do.” YOu are doing it.!

I will so enjoy watching this whole project unfold. The world will turn.. a each day will reveal itself and you will paint us a picture.

Ida - you possess tremendous courage and optimism in order to set forth on your journey. It’s a privilege to be able to be a part of your discoveries, if even from afar.
Thank you for blazing the trail to make the world a place that we can better understand through simple communication.

Talk about connecting with people, I think it is about time we did! When you get back “home” dinner’s on at my house. Until then warmest wishes from one of your oldest fans!

Hello from a fellow world traveler, old friend, and current aimless expat. Loving watching things unfold for you on the other side of the planet, admiring and totally identifying with your urge to leave your comfortable existence to do something insane, foolhardy, irresponsible, and completely life-changing. Keep in touch when you can, thinking of you and your adventure often. Japan is amazing, I haven’t regretted coming here for an instant.
Remember what Paul Bowles wrote: “A tourist is someone who thinks about going home the moment they arrive, whereas a traveler might not come back at all.”

    Ida,
I finally got through Christmas to sit down and look over the site. I read every statement! It really is wonderful…this journey you are on. What special people there are in this world. It makes you wonder how can there be so much separation and hatred. Keep on on keeping on! I am so happy to be friends with you! You are truly a marvelous woman!

    Ida,
Amazing project! The inspirations of others is something you do not often get a chance to understand. Well done.

Your photography is amazing. Glad to see your subjects have improved since our photography sessions at Dengates, with Ryan and a handful of popcorn. Safe travels and I look forward to reading more.

    Great project, congratulation.

I love the last post, personally I prefer close up pictures. there’s a mistery in them. I first read the text and then try the imagine how’s the person who said that, and the part of the body you show on the photo (the eye, hat, nose, whatever) help me to figure out and build this person in my minds. so interesting!
